Meet The TEAM
Tisha Thorne, Instructor
Tisha Thorne, the co-owner of Sew Creative Lounge, is a seasoned and certified sewing instructor with over two decades of teaching experience both locally in the Washington DC area and across the nation.
A native of Washington DC, Tisha's deep-rooted passion for sewing has driven her to educate and inspire students of all ages. Her dedication to spreading the art of sewing is not just a profession but a lifelong calling.
In 2014, Tisha, in partnership with Cecily Habimana, co-founded Sip and Sew DC, a groundbreaking venture that seamlessly merged the joys of sewing with a social and interactive experience.Building on their success, Tisha and Cecily embarked on a new chapter in 2017 when they established Sew Creative Lounge, a haven for sewing enthusiasts to learn, create, and connect. Under Tisha's expert guidance, Sew Creative Lounge has blossomed into a vibrant hub for sewers of all skill levels, from novices to seasoned artisans.
Tisha's overarching mission is a simple yet profound one: to teach the world to sew, one stitch at a time. Her commitment to this mission is palpable in every class she leads, every project she undertakes, and every student she mentors.
Cecily Habimana, HOST
Janet Green, Instructor
Janet has been sewing since childhood, mostly garments and home décor items. She started this part of her journey about ten years ago, making quilts for cover and comfort. Uninspired by traditional quilt patterns and coordinated fabric bundles, she wanted more interesting quilting adventures. Facing a pile of fabric scraps and pieces trimmed from other projects, she asked herself “what if I...?”. That day, her journey took a happy turn into improvisational quilting, and she never looked back!
Making random blocks (or segments, as she likes to call them) with no real end in mind, exciting new compositions emerged. She loved what she was creating. More importantly, she loved what she was becoming—a Fabric Mixologist.

CECILY HABIMANA, HOST
Meet Cecily Habimana—an entrepreneur who is not only living her dream but inspiring others to do the same. Together with her partner Tisha, she co-owns Sew Creative Lounge, a thriving sewing haven nestled in Mount Rainier, Maryland. Their dynamic establishment offers an array of sewing classes catering to both kids and adults, available both online and in person.
When the world was faced with the challenges of a global pandemic, Cecily and Tisha responded with resilience and innovation. They extended their passion for sewing into the digital realm, introducing a unique fabric collection and pioneering a membership program designed to unite and empower seamstresses and quilters alike. Their dedication to this endeavor has not gone unnoticed.
Cecily's accomplishments have earned her recognition in numerous esteemed publications and blogs, including The Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune. Her expertise has also been sought after by major media outlets, and she has made impactful appearances on FOX 5 News and NPR. Her contributions to the sewing and crafting community have left an indelible mark on both the local and national stages.

What is Quilt Like the Pros Workshop?
Quilt Like the Pros Workshop is a 4-Day quilting challenge where we are challenging you to learn various techniques that will help you master the art of quilting.
When is it?
The workshops are being held virtually from June 10-13th from 1-2:30pm EST.
What level are these workshops appropriate for?
These workshops is appropriate for the absolute beginner through advanced level quilter.
How much do the workshops cost?
The workshops are free to attend! You can also upgrade your registration to VIP in order to access additional class and recordings. Due to the nature of the content, there are no refunds for the VIP pass.
What supplies do I need for the challenge?
The supply list will be available to you upon registering. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a workshop kit during the registration process.
Who is hosting the challenge?
The challenge is being hosted by Cecily Habimana, co-owner of Sew Creative Lounge. Classes will be instructed by Tisha Thorne and Janet Green.
